The How to’s of your 990 – What does your 990 says about your organization? How can you put your best foot forward?

Your 990 tells the public the “story” of your organization.  Your 990 is a public document giving everyone, including funders, the details on how you govern your organization. Every nonprofit is required to complete a 990 annually. It is the main information form used to disclose to the public how you use the funds you have received.  It is critical that it tells the story of your mission.  Too many boards don't pay enough attention to what their 990 is telling people. A foundation's 990 tells the story of their grant making decisions. 990’s can also raise red flags to the IRS that could have tax implications. Learn critical information about the 990 and how to read and work with the document.
