Did you know The Miller Foundation hosts FREE Board training events each year. These learning sessions are open to any current Battle Creek Community member, Battle Creek non-profit leadership, board members, staff members or volunteers that directly serve the Battle Creek MI community, including having staff or office space in Battle Creek.

Title:  Foundations of Board Governance (free)

Nonprofit boards have the ultimate responsibility and accountability for the organizations they lead. Does every member of your board understand their legal obligations, basic responsibilities, and duties? 
We will address current trends, challenges, and climates for organizations in the current year.

Session Goals This workshop will provide participants with the following:

  • The three legal responsibilities of a nonprofit board
  • 10 basic responsibilities of a nonprofit board
  • Key tasks the board should undertake

Designed for—  It doesn't matter if you have served on a board for years or if you are serving on a board for the first time, this workshop will help you with whatever stage of board development you are at within your organization. Join with your other board members!

*To avoid event cancellation we are offering registration options for the AM session. In-person or Zoom.
If not enough participants are able to attend in-person, the session will be presented over Zoom (only).
 This decision will be communicated in the 1-week prior email reminder. This session will be in-person.

Cancellations must be made 48 hours prior to the meeting if you are unable to attend.  These workshops are offered at no-cost and “No-Shows” may affect the ability of organizations to participate in future events.

The Miller Foundation tracks participation and rewards organizations for attendance. Attendance will be taken at each event. Each participant must be registered and attend in order to obtain participation credit for your organization. A minimum 48 hour cancellation is required.
